James Cameron's Opinion on RoboCop and RoboCop 2 in 1991

James Cameron was asked twice about RoboCop when promoting Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It's interesting that his opinion on the two films is rarely mentioned online, perhaps due to the fact that they originate from magazines that are long gone and only in the hands of collectors. Some fans assume he never gave his opinion on it, perhaps because he disagreed with the violent tone. But Cameron actually praised the original movie

JAMES CAMERON: "I enjoyed the hell out of it ('RoboCop' 1987) myself. Paul Verhoeven is a class act. I liked that more than 'Total Recall' because , not to speak against Arnold, it had serious moralistic problems I found difficult to reconcile. 'RoboCop' had real heart. It was hard not to emphatise with a cyborg reclaiming his soul." (Starburst Magazine #159, November 1991)

He praised the movie earlier that same year as well

JAMES CAMERON: "'RoboCop' is violent but at least it's a well made film" (Box Office Magazine July 1991)

He was not very subtle however, expressing his dislike for the sequel in the very same magazine issue

JAMES CAMERON: "'RoboCop 2' is off the scale [with violence] as far as I'm concerned. That's a disgusting film. 'RoboCop 2' is a pile of dogshit" (Box Office Magazine July 1991)
